Child Safeguarding Policy

​1. Introduction 


Playeum Ltd. is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all children and young people participating in its programmes. This Child Safeguarding Policy outlines the principles, responsibilities, and procedures that all partners, staff, volunteers, interns, and trainees must adhere to in order to create a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for children and young people under the age of 18.


2. Scope 


This policy applies to all individuals involved in Playeum Ltd.'s programmes, including but not limited to employees, volunteers, interns, trainees, and external partners. It governs all physical and online interactions with children and young people.


3. Principles 


Playeum Ltd. upholds the following safeguarding principles:

  • The best interests of the child are paramount.

  • All children have the right to be protected from harm, abuse, and exploitation.

  • Safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone within the organisation.

  • Playeum Ltd. fosters an inclusive and culturally safe environment.

  • All children, staff, and volunteers must be protected from discrimination based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic.

  • Children’s voices should be actively listened to, and they should be involved in decision-making processes concerning them.


4. Code of Conduct 

 

All individuals engaging with children in Playeum Ltd. programmes must adhere to the following code of conduct and commit to child safeguarding.


4.1. Professionalism and Respect

 

  • Model respectful behaviour, including appropriate dress, punctuality, and clear communication with the Playeum Team.

  • Treat all children and adults with respect, courtesy, and fairness.

  • Listen to and act upon concerns raised by children.

  • Maintain professional boundaries and avoid inappropriate familiarity.

  • Foster an inclusive environment that respects diverse backgrounds and needs.

  • Involve children in decision-making where appropriate.

  • Ensure an environment free from discrimination, bullying, or harassment based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other personal attributes.

 

4.2. Safety and Protection

 

  • Identify and mitigate potential risks to children’s safety.

  • Immediately report any safety concerns or suspected abuse to the Playeum Team.

  • Never engage in any activity that may harm a child physically, sexually, or emotionally.

  • Avoid situations where one-on-one interaction with a child is necessary; ensure visibility and transparency in all interactions.

  • Do not ignore or dismiss any disclosure or suspicion of harm or abuse.
     

4.3. Behavioural Expectations

 

  • Do not engage in unlawful activities involving children.

  • Do not discriminate against any child or adult.

  • Do not use inappropriate language or provide access to inappropriate material.

  • Do not work with children under the influence of alcohol or prohibited substances.

4.4. Recording and Personal Data Protection

 

  • Collect, store, and dispose of children’s personal data responsibly and in compliance with Playeum Ltd.'s Personal Data Protection Policy.

  • Do not arrange personal contact with children outside of Playeum Ltd.’s programmes.

  • Do not disclose personal information, including images, unless required for Playeum Ltd.'s reporting procedures.

5. Listening to Children’s Voices and Decision-Making

 

  • Actively seek and respect children’s views on matters that affect them.

  • Provide opportunities for children to participate in decision-making processes in age-appropriate ways.

  • Ensure that children feel safe and confident to express their opinions and concerns.

  • Integrate feedback from children into programme planning and improvement.


6. Onboarding and Vetting Process

 

As part of the onboarding process, all staff, volunteers, and partners must undergo a thorough vetting process, which includes:

 

  • A background check to ensure suitability for working with children.

  • An interview to assess understanding of child safeguarding responsibilities.

  • Training on Playeum Ltd.'s Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.

  • Only individuals who successfully complete this process will be allowed to engage in programmes involving children.

 

7. Reporting and Response Procedures 


If a breach of this policy is suspected or observed, the following steps must be taken:

  • Prioritise the child’s best interests and safety.

  • Report any concerns immediately to the Playeum Team.

  • Follow Playeum Ltd.’s complaint-handling and response procedures.

  • In cases of illegal activity, report to relevant Singapore Government Authorities.

 

8. Mandatory Commitment to the Code of Conduct 

 

All volunteers, staff, and partners must acknowledge and commit to Playeum Ltd.’s Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding Policy before engaging in any programme involving children. This commitment confirms their responsibility to uphold the highest standards of child safeguarding and to uphold a non-discriminatory and inclusive environment for all participants and team members.

Failure to adhere to this policy may result in disciplinary action, including immediate termination of engagement with Playeum Ltd.

 

9. Review and Updates 

​

This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with best practices in child safeguarding.
