Shape of You

For ages 6 to 12

(Child-only workshop;

No parent accompaniment required)

by Artists Sonia Kwek & Din Chan

Workshop available on:

Friday, 4 October & Saturday, 5 October

10:30am to 11:30am

How do we take up space? We move to make our mark in spaces. In this 1-hour workshop, we explore how to activate different parts of our body as drawing tools, making sense of the body spatially. We will also be exploring movement through light painting with electronic wearables!

Sonia is a performer and performance-maker who works across varying arts mediums. Collaboration, devising and using the body are central to her practice. Sonia graduated from the actor training programme at Intercultural Theatre Institute and holds a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Drama) with Distinction from Queensland University of Technology. Currently, Sonia is also an associate artist with dance company P7:1SMA. Sonia is experienced in facilitating for children, including drama workshops for Singapore Creations Etc., and learning journeys for The Thought Collective. Sonia is also proud to be a playmaker with Playeum since 2016, as she strongly aligns with harnessing creativity through play.

About Sonia Kwek

Din Chan, Installation Artist (b. 1989, Singapore) graduated with BA(Hons) Fine Arts from Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore and is currently pursuing his MA in Art Therapy. His work is primarily based on interactions with the viewer through movement and their senses. Using technology as a medium he is able to let the viewer express themselves, it is no longer about the artist, it is about the art making, the collaboration, the process, the mess and the noise. Engaging the viewer not just by gaze but also their senses and physicality of their body. It is no longer a one sided story, it is multi-faceted and it is a story where everyone can be a part of.

About Din Chan

Join our friends from HaruPlate in this multi-sensorial workshop for children! Exploring food scraps of different shapes and sizes, children are invited to work in groups, get very hands-on and build their own miniature playground out of food waste!

On top of sensory exploration, they will be invited to think about structures, elements of design and also touch on the topic surrounding food waste and decomposition. Once their playground is created, each child will receive a polaroid photo of the structure/play area that they have built to take home as a gift and enjoy a drink/snack made from the food ingredients they were exploring with.

About HaruPlate

Show us into your home by creating a diorama of it! Using inspiration from our homes and landscapes, children will gather ideas about spaces and what goes into them. Exploring children’s spatial awareness and creativity, children will be invited to draw onto a die-cut cube. Take a peep into your cube and see what happens!
