More Than Just Storytelling
Goldilocks and the Three Bears: A Timeless Tale with a Twist
Stories create a dialogue with the community, engage audiences and bring the environment alive.
Puppetry as storytelling is a powerful means of nurturing communication. Puppetry allows to take on a 3rd person perspective, develops community engagement, fosters social cooperation and teaches social norms and values. Through this, children get to communicate with others around them and in turn, build on their ability to be advocates for the community and the environment as they develop meaningful relationships.
The classic story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears reinforces the power of choice and learning from self-directed exploration. For almost two centuries, children around the world engaged with Goldilocks, a little girl who entered the house of the three bears without permission. She had to make moral decisions on what is the right choice on quantity and size, but also on whether it was right for her to enter the house in the first place. As in many stories from that era the repetitive formulas are to engage the child's attention and to reinforce the point about choice, community living and relationships.
